Surfshark One
The best value VPN in 2026: unlimited devices, Antivirus, 4500+ servers, CleanWeb, Cybersecurity bundle, NoBorders, GPS override, Surfshark Everlink, fast servers in 100+ countries, and watertight privacy.
- Unlimited devices
- No-logs policy
- 100+ countries
- 24/7 support
Pornhub and dozens of other adult sites are still blocked in Texas in October 2026. Porn isn’t illegal there, but House Bill 1181 requires government ID age checks, and many platforms would rather shut the door than collect that data.
The Supreme Court upheld HB 1181 in June 2025, so this isn’t going away. If you live in Texas, or close enough that sites think you do, a VPN is the fastest and most private fix.
I work full-time in cybersecurity and have published more than 600 VPN videos over 3+ years on my AllThingsVPN and VPNR channels. In this guide, I show how to reach adult sites from Texas without handing over your ID, which VPNs I recommend, and which sites are blocked right now.
How to watch porn in Texas without ID: step-by-step
Choose a reliable VPN
Get a VPN with fast US servers and an audited no-logs policy. I recommend Surfshark One, the fastest VPN I’ve tested at about 96% speed retention, for $2.79/mo on the 2-year plan.
Download and install the app
Surfshark has apps for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and Linux, plus browser extensions. Install it and log in.
Connect to a server in an unrestricted state
Denver, Los Angeles and New York are great choices. Skip Dallas, Houston and Austin, and avoid nearby restricted states too, including Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Arizona.
Open a private window and visit the site
Use a fresh private window so old cookies can’t reveal your Texas location. Pornhub and other blocked sites should load normally.
Keep the VPN on while browsing
Disconnecting brings back your Texas IP and the block with it. Turn on auto-connect and the kill switch so the VPN never drops silently.
Is porn banned in Texas?
No. Texas passed HB 1181, which requires any website where more than one third of the content is sexual material harmful to minors to verify ages with a government-issued ID or a similar method.
Aylo, Pornhub’s parent company, chose to block Texas rather than collect ID documents from millions of users. It argues that those databases are a hacker’s dream and a privacy disaster waiting to happen.
Sites that do comply face penalties of up to $10,000 per day for violations, plus extra fines for keeping identifying data or exposing a minor. That is why the Texas Attorney General has sued several adult companies since 2024.
Texas porn law: timeline
| Date | Event |

| June 2023 | Texas passes HB 1181, requiring age verification on adult sites where more than one third of content is harmful to minors. |
| August 31, 2023 | Federal Judge David Alan Ezra blocks the law the day before it starts, citing First Amendment concerns. |
| November 2023 | The 5th Circuit pauses that block, letting Texas start enforcing the age verification rules. |
| February 2024 | Attorney General Ken Paxton sues Aylo over HB 1181 compliance. |
| March 2024 | The 5th Circuit sides with Texas, Pornhub leaves the state on March 14, and Paxton sues the companies behind xHamster and Chaturbate. |
| January 15, 2025 | The US Supreme Court hears arguments in Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton. |
| June 27, 2025 | The Supreme Court upholds HB 1181 in a 6 to 3 ruling. |
| July 2026 | Texas’ separate app store age verification law becomes enforceable after the Supreme Court declines to block it. |

The One plan adds antivirus, data breach alerts and a private search tool on top of the VPN. Unlimited devices, CleanWeb ad blocking and Bypasser split tunneling round it out, all for $2.79/mo on the 2-year plan with 85% off and 3 months free.

What I liked
- About 93% speed retention

Not sure which VPN fits you best?
Surfshark One is my top pick overall, but you can compare every VPN I've tested side by side in my full guide.

If privacy is your top priority, Proton VPN is the pick. It comes from the team behind Proton Mail, runs under Swiss privacy law, and its no-logs policy and open-source apps have been independently audited.
Since most Texans want a VPN to avoid sharing identity data, that track record fits well. It kept about 92% of my base speed and costs $2.99/mo on the 2-year plan with 70% off. Read my Proton VPN review.
What I liked
- Swiss jurisdiction
- Open-source, audited apps
- Free plan with US servers and no data cap
What I didn’t like
- Free plan is slower and won’t let you pick a state
- Costs more than Surfshark One for fewer extras
4. PrivadoVPN: cheapest option and best free VPN
PrivadoVPN is the cheapest VPN I recommend at $1.11/mo on the 2-year plan, with 90% off and 3 months free. It’s based in Iceland, follows a no-logs policy and has a free plan with 10 GB per month.
It kept about 85% of my base speed, fine for HD. See my PrivadoVPN review.
What I liked
- Lowest price on my list
- Usable free tier
- Iceland-based with a no-logs policy
What I didn’t like
- Free data runs out quickly with video
- Slowest of my top picks
5. NordVPN: one of the fastest, but pricier
NordVPN has a huge server network and solid speeds, at about 91% retention in my tests. That’s good, but behind Surfshark, and it costs more at $3.59/mo on the Plus plan with 75% off and 3 months free.

Why use a VPN to bypass the Texas porn ban?
Unblocking sites is only part of it. A VPN also:
- Gets past geo-blocks without ID: blocked sites see a non-Texas IP and load normally.
- Hides your activity from your ISP: your provider sees an encrypted connection, not the sites you visit.
- Protects you on shared networks: hotel and public Wi-Fi users can’t see your traffic.
- Keeps your ID away from verification vendors: if a verifier gets breached, your documents aren’t in the leak.
Porn sites available in Texas (2026)

| Redtube | ❌ Blocked | Not offered, site fully blocked |
| YouPorn | ❌ Blocked | Not offered, site fully blocked |

Based on my latest checks. Sites change their approach often, so treat this as a snapshot.
Why does Pornhub think I’m in Texas when I’m not?
It happens more often than you’d think. Some ISPs route traffic through Texas network hubs, so people in New Mexico or other nearby areas can get geolocated to Texas.
A VPN with city-level server choice, like Surfshark or IPVanish, fixes this. Pick Denver, Los Angeles or New York, and that’s the location adult sites see.
Cheap or free VPNs can cause the same problem by assigning you a Dallas or Houston server at random. Stick with a paid VPN that lets you choose the location yourself.
Is it legal to use a VPN to watch porn in Texas?
Yes. VPNs are legal in the US, and HB 1181 places obligations and penalties on website operators, not on adult users. No Texas law stops adults from using a VPN to view legal content.
This applies to adults over 18 only, and each site’s terms of service still apply however you connect.
Can I use a free VPN to watch porn in Texas?
Technically yes, but I’d advise against it here. Free VPNs often have few servers and no city choice, so you can land on a Texas IP or another restricted state.
They also tend to be slow for video, and many make money by logging and selling your browsing data, the opposite of what you want.
If you want to start free, PrivadoVPN’s 10 GB plan and Proton VPN’s free plan are the only ones I’d trust. Otherwise, Surfshark One at $2.79/mo is about as close to free as a trustworthy VPN gets.
FAQ
Is Pornhub banned in Texas?
Not by law. Aylo chose to block Texas in March 2024 rather than comply with HB 1181’s ID checks, and it’s still blocked in October 2026. A VPN server outside Texas restores access.
Why did Texas require age verification for porn sites?
HB 1181 aims to keep minors away from explicit content. Sites where more than one third of content is harmful to minors must verify visitors are 18+, and the Supreme Court upheld the law in June 2025.
Can I watch Pornhub in Texas with a VPN?
Yes. Connect to a server in an unrestricted state such as Colorado, California or New York, and Pornhub loads normally. Surfshark One gives the fastest speeds and best value in my tests.
Which VPN is best for the Texas porn ban?
Surfshark One. It kept about 96% of my base speed, supports unlimited devices, blocks ads with CleanWeb and costs $2.79/mo on the 2-year plan. IPVanish and Proton VPN are strong alternatives.
Is it legal to use a VPN to watch porn in Texas?
Yes. VPNs are legal throughout the US, and HB 1181 targets website operators, not adult users.
Why does Pornhub think I’m in Texas when I’m not?
Some ISPs route traffic through Texas infrastructure, so nearby users can be geolocated there. Connect to a VPN server in a city like Denver or New York to fix it.
Do any porn sites work in Texas without age verification?
In my testing, the major platforms either block Texas or require ID or face scans. A few smaller sites may still skip checks, but that changes as enforcement grows, so a VPN is the reliable long-term option.
Which VPN server should I use from Texas?
Denver is the closest major unrestricted hub, and Los Angeles and New York are very reliable. Avoid servers in restricted states such as Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Arizona, Florida and Utah. Canadian servers also work today, though Canada’s Senate has passed an age verification bill that is now before the House of Commons.
