Surfshark One
The best value VPN in 2026: unlimited devices, Antivirus, 4500+ servers, CleanWeb, Cybersecurity bundle, NoBorders, GPS override, Surfshark Everlink, fast servers in 100+ countries, and watertight privacy.
- Unlimited devices
- No-logs policy
- 100+ countries
- 24/7 support
Since the UK’s Online Safety Act age checks started on July 25, 2025, adult sites like Erome must lock their content until UK visitors prove they are 18. If you’re in the UK, you’ve likely seen the prompt: upload a photo ID, enter card details or scan your face before anything plays.
Enforcement has only tightened since. Ofcom has fined several porn providers, Pornhub pulled out of the UK in February 2026, and the regulator is now studying how sites can detect VPN users.

I work full-time in cybersecurity and have published more than 600 VPN videos over 3+ years on my AllThingsVPN and VPNR channels. In this guide, I show how adults can reach Erome without uploading ID, which VPNs worked best in my tests, and where the law stands in October 2026.

How to bypass Erome age verification in the UK: quick steps
Get a trusted VPN
My top pick is Surfshark One, the fastest VPN I’ve tested, with servers in 100+ countries. It costs $2.79/mo on the 2-year plan with 85% off and 3 months free.
Install the VPN on your device
Download the app for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android or Linux and sign in.
Connect to a server outside the UK
The Netherlands and Ireland are close and fast, and US servers in states without age verification laws, such as New York, also work. Avoid France and Italy, which have their own age checks.
Clear cookies and visit Erome
Open a private window so old UK cookies don’t trigger the prompt again. With the VPN active, Erome should load without age verification.
Why does Erome ask for ID in the UK?
Erome isn’t blocked in the UK, but it must verify the age of every UK visitor before showing explicit content. That duty comes from the Online Safety Act 2023, which requires “highly effective” age assurance on adult platforms.
Typical methods include:
- Uploading a government-issued photo ID
- A credit card check
- Facial age estimation
- A third-party digital ID app
Platforms take this seriously. Ofcom can fine up to £18 million or 10% of global revenue, and in 2026 it issued fines including £1.35 million against one adult operator and £800,000 against another. According to Ofcom, all of the UK’s top 10 porn sites now comply.
Why UK adults are pushing back
The child-safety goal is hard to argue with. But to view legal content, adults now hand sensitive identity documents to an adult site, often through a verification company they’ve never heard of.
That raises fair questions: how is the data stored, who can access it, and what happens after a breach? Ofcom’s own figures show UK VPN use has nearly doubled since the checks began, mostly from adults who’d rather not share their ID.

Step-by-step: how to bypass Erome age verification with Surfshark
Sign up for Surfshark One
Head to Surfshark’s website and choose the Surfshark One 2-year plan. It costs $2.79/mo with 85% off and 3 months free, and includes antivirus, breach alerts and CleanWeb.
Download and install the app
Surfshark works on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and Linux, plus browser extensions. Installation takes about a minute.
Clear your browser cookies
Erome may have stored your UK location from an earlier visit. Clear cookies or use a private window so the prompt doesn’t reappear.
Connect to a server outside the UK
Pick the Netherlands, Ireland or a US city such as New York. Each worked without triggering Erome’s age gate in my testing.
Visit Erome and browse
Keep the VPN connected for the whole session. Disconnecting mid-session can bring back the UK checks.
How Erome’s age verification works
Erome’s age gate is triggered by your IP address. When it sees a UK IP, it locks videos and photos and sends you to a verification page run by an outside provider.
The idea is that the third party confirms you’re over 18 without Erome storing your raw ID. You’re still sharing sensitive documents with a company in the adult content chain, which is why so many UK adults object.
A VPN works at the IP level. Erome doesn’t see a UK address, so the prompt never appears.
Is it legal to use a VPN to bypass Erome age verification in the UK?
Using a VPN in the UK is legal, and millions of people use one for privacy, public Wi-Fi security and remote work. In July 2026, the government decided not to age-gate or restrict VPNs, saying they have legitimate privacy and security uses.
The Online Safety Act puts its duties on platforms, not on adult users. No UK law makes it an offence for an adult to view legal content through a VPN, although you are side-stepping a check the platform is required to run.
Other adult sites with age checks in the UK
Erome is far from the only site affected. Here is a quick reference for other major platforms.
| Site | UK status | Works with a VPN? |
|---|---|---|
| Pornhub | Blocked since February 2026, except iPhone users verified by Apple | ✅ Yes |
| YouPorn | Restricted, same as Pornhub | ✅ Yes |
| RedTube | Restricted, same as Pornhub | ✅ Yes |
| xVideos | Age verification required | ✅ Yes |
| XNXX | Age verification required | ✅ Yes |
| xHamster | Age verification required | ✅ Yes |
| Chaturbate | Age verification required | ✅ Yes |
| Stripchat | Age verification required | ✅ Yes |
Can I use a free VPN to bypass Erome age verification?
Some free VPNs work, but I’d be cautious. Most come with data caps, slow speeds, few locations and weak privacy, and some have been caught selling user data.
Two free plans I’d trust:
- PrivadoVPN Free: 10 GB per month and a no-logs policy.
- Proton VPN Free: no data cap, but few countries and no streaming focus, so results vary.
For something that just works, a paid plan like Surfshark One at $2.79/mo is worth it, and the 30-day money-back guarantee lets you test it risk-free.
Frequently asked questions
Can minors use a VPN to bypass Erome’s age verification?
No. Minors should never try to get around age checks on adult sites, which exist to protect young people. This guide is written only for adults aged 18 and over.
Which server location should I connect to for Erome?
The Netherlands and Ireland are close to the UK and worked reliably in my tests. US servers in states without age verification laws, such as New York, also work. Avoid France and Italy, which have their own checks.
Why does the age prompt still appear with a VPN on?
Usually because of cookies from an earlier UK visit. Clear cookies or use a private window, and make sure the VPN is fully connected before you open Erome.
Will I need to pass the check every time I visit?
Not if you stay on a non-UK server. Clearing cookies, switching devices or disconnecting can bring the prompt back, so reconnect before loading the site.
Will a VPN slow down Erome?
Barely, with a quality VPN. Surfshark kept about 96% of my base speed, so you’re unlikely to notice a difference during playback. Free VPNs slow things down far more.
Is the UK going to ban VPNs?
Not for now. In July 2026, the government chose not to restrict or age-gate VPNs. It is instead asking Ofcom and platforms to get better at spotting people who use VPNs to skip age checks.
Are there adult sites in the UK that work without age verification?
Ofcom says all of the UK’s top 10 porn sites now run age checks, and I couldn’t find a major platform that skips them. A VPN remains the practical option for adults who don’t want to submit ID.
Final thoughts
The Online Safety Act has changed how UK adults reach sites like Erome. It may protect minors, but it leaves adults uneasy about uploading personal documents to adult platforms.
A reliable VPN is the most practical answer. Surfshark One is my pick for speed and value, Proton VPN is the most privacy-rigorous choice, and IPVanish gives you unlimited devices on a budget. Clear your cookies, pick a server in the Netherlands or Ireland, and keep the VPN on for the whole session.
