- Unlimited devices
- No-logs policy
- 100+ countries

Indiana’s Senate Bill 17 requires adult websites to verify that every visitor is at least 18. Some sites added third-party ID checks or face scans, while Pornhub, Redtube, YouPorn and Brazzers chose to block Indiana entirely, and they are still blocked in October 2026.
The fight has also escalated. In December 2025, Indiana’s Attorney General sued Pornhub’s parent company Aylo, arguing that blocking Indiana IP addresses isn’t enough because residents can still connect through VPNs.

I work full-time in cybersecurity and have published more than 600 VPN videos over 3+ years on my AllThingsVPN and VPNR channels. In this guide, I show which sites are blocked in Indiana, how to reach them privately, and which VPNs worked best in my tests.
How to unblock Pornhub in Indiana (step-by-step)
Get a reliable VPN
My top pick is Surfshark One: fast, affordable and packed with US server locations. Sign up and download the app for your device.
Install and open the VPN app
Surfshark has apps for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and Linux, plus browser extensions. Install it and log in.
Connect to a server outside Indiana
Choose a state without an age verification law. Illinois (Chicago) is the closest, and New York or California also work well. Avoid neighbors Kentucky and Ohio, which have their own laws.
Clear cookies and block location access
Stored cookies and browser location permissions can reveal your real state. Use a private window and deny any location request.
Visit Pornhub or your preferred site
With the VPN connected, the block page or age check should disappear. If it doesn’t, switch to another server and refresh.
Why you need a VPN to watch porn in Indiana
SB 17 doesn’t ban pornography for adults. It forces adult sites to check ages, usually with a government ID, a face scan or a third-party verification service. A VPN helps in four ways:
- Get past site blocks: Pornhub, Redtube, YouPorn, Tube8 and Brazzers block every Indiana IP address. A VPN gives you an IP from another state.
- Skip invasive age checks: sites that comply ask for face scans or IDs in Indiana. From an unrestricted state, those prompts usually don’t appear.
- Hide your browsing from your ISP: without a VPN, your internet provider can see every site you visit. With one, it only sees encrypted traffic to the VPN.
- Stay safe on public Wi-Fi: encryption protects you at coffee shops, hotels and airports.
What’s actually blocked in Indiana? (current status)
SB 17 created a patchwork. Some sites blocked Indiana outright, others added verification, and a few only show a simple age pop-up. Here is what I found in my most recent checks.
| Site | Blocked in Indiana? | Age verification required? |
|---|---|---|
| Pornhub | ❌ Yes, access blocked | N/A (site blocked) |
| Redtube | ❌ Yes, access blocked | N/A (site blocked) |
| YouPorn | ❌ Yes, access blocked | N/A (site blocked) |
| Tube8 | ❌ Yes, access blocked | N/A (site blocked) |
| Brazzers | ❌ Yes, access blocked | N/A (site blocked) |
| Redgifs | ❌ Yes, access blocked | N/A (site blocked) |
| xHamster | ✅ Accessible | 🔒 Yes, AI face scan |
| Chaturbate | ✅ Accessible | 🔒 Yes, QR scan or phone link |
| Stripchat | ✅ Accessible | 🔒 Yes, login or ID |
| SpankBang | ✅ Accessible | 🔒 Yes, AI age estimation |
| XNXX | ✅ Accessible | ⚠️ Age pop-up only |
| Xvideos | ✅ Accessible | ⚠️ Age pop-up only |
| OnlyFans | ✅ Accessible | Login required |
Last checked: October 2026. Sites change their approach often, so treat this as a snapshot.
Aylo, the company behind Pornhub, Redtube, YouPorn, Tube8 and Brazzers, made a deliberate choice. It argues that age verification builds databases linking real identities to adult viewing, an obvious target for hackers, so it pulled out of Indiana in July 2024.

1. Surfshark One: best overall and the fastest VPN I tested
Surfshark One is my top recommendation for bypassing Indiana’s porn ban, and it’s the VPN I use myself. It kept about 96% of my base speed, the best result of any VPN I’ve tested, so HD and 4K video played without buffering.

The One plan adds antivirus, data breach alerts and the CleanWeb ad and tracker blocker, all handy on sites known for aggressive ads and malicious pop-ups. Unlimited devices means one subscription covers your whole home.
Chicago, New York and Los Angeles servers all worked perfectly from Indiana in my tests. Its no-logs policy has been audited by Deloitte, and the current deal is $2.79/mo on the 2-year plan with 85% off and 3 months free.
What I liked
- About 96% speed retention, fastest in my tests
- Unlimited devices on one plan
- CleanWeb blocks ads and trackers on adult sites
- Plenty of US cities in unrestricted states
- Audited no-logs policy
What I didn’t like
- Smaller server count than NordVPN
- Some advanced features missing on iOS

+ 3 months free included. Just $2.79/mo on the 2-year plan with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
2. IPVanish: unlimited devices, fast speeds and budget friendly
IPVanish is my second pick, especially if you have lots of devices. It kept about 93% of my base speed, and every plan allows unlimited simultaneous connections.

The apps are clean, setup took me under two minutes, and 24/7 live chat is there if anything goes wrong. It doesn’t accept crypto payments, which may matter if you want extra anonymity.
The deal is 84% off at $2.39/mo on the 24-month Essential plan, plus a 3 GB eSIM data gift. Read my IPVanish review or the IPVanish coupon page.
What I liked
- About 93% speed retention
- Unlimited simultaneous connections
- Budget-friendly at $2.39/mo
- 24/7 live chat support
What I didn’t like
- No anonymous payment options
- Fewer countries than Surfshark
Not sure which VPN fits you best?
Surfshark One is my top pick overall, but you can compare every VPN I've tested side by side in my full guide.

If privacy matters most, Proton VPN is the one to pick. It comes from the team behind Proton Mail, runs under Swiss privacy law, uses open-source apps and has an independently audited no-logs policy.

Its free plan has no data cap and includes US servers, but it covers one device and you can’t pick a specific state. The paid plan kept about 92% of my base speed and costs $2.99/mo on the 2-year plan with 70% off.
Read my Proton VPN review or the Proton VPN coupon page.
What I liked
- Strongest privacy credentials I’ve reviewed
- Free plan with no data cap
- Open-source, audited apps
- About 92% speed retention on paid plans
What I didn’t like
- Free plan limited to one device and no state choice
- Costs more than Surfshark One for fewer extras
4. PrivadoVPN: cheapest option and best free VPN
PrivadoVPN is the cheapest VPN I recommend at $1.11/mo on the 2-year plan, with 90% off and 3 months free. It is based in Iceland and follows a no-logs policy.
The free plan gives you 10 GB per month, enough for light use. Speeds came in at about 85% retention, a step behind the leaders but fine for HD. More in my PrivadoVPN review.
What I liked
- Lowest price on my list
- Usable free tier with 10 GB per month
- Iceland-based with a no-logs policy
What I didn’t like
- Free data runs out quickly with video
- Smaller server network than the top picks
5. NordVPN: one of the fastest, but pricier
NordVPN works well for bypassing Indiana’s ban, and its huge network makes it easy to find a fast server nearby. It kept about 91% of my base speed, behind Surfshark’s 96% but plenty for 4K.

Threat Protection blocks ads, trackers and malware, and obfuscated servers help on networks that try to block VPNs. It costs more than Surfshark One at $3.59/mo on the Plus plan with 75% off and 3 months free.
Read my NordVPN review, the NordVPN coupon page or my Surfshark vs NordVPN comparison.
What I liked
- Very large server network
- Threat Protection blocks ads and malware
- Obfuscated servers for restrictive networks
What I didn’t like
- Pricier than Surfshark One
- Slower than Surfshark in my head-to-head tests
- 10-device limit
6. VeePN: budget streaming pick
VeePN reached every blocked site I tried from Indiana and kept about 88% of my base speed, which is fine for HD streaming.

It won’t win awards for advanced features, but it’s cheap and does the job: 83% off plus 4 months free at $1.99/mo. Read my VeePN review or the VeePN coupon page.

- ExpressVPN: easiest apps to use, about 91% speed retention, 78% off plus 4 months at $2.79/mo. Owned by Kape Technologies.

What is Indiana’s porn law? (SB 17 explained)
Senate Enrolled Act 17 was signed in March 2024 and was due to start on July 1, 2024. It applies to commercial websites where at least one third of the content is considered harmful to minors, and requires them to verify every user’s age.
A federal judge briefly blocked the law, but an appeals court let Indiana enforce it in August 2024. In June 2025, the US Supreme Court upheld a near-identical Texas law in Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton, which removed most of the remaining legal doubt.
Verification usually means sharing a driver’s license, state ID or face scan with a third-party service you’ve probably never heard of. That extra company in the chain is exactly the privacy risk Aylo points to.
Indiana’s lawsuit against Aylo over VPN users
In December 2025, Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita sued Aylo. His argument is that blocking Indiana IP addresses doesn’t count as reasonable age verification, because residents can still reach Pornhub through VPNs and proxies.
Aylo says it blocks every Indiana IP address and that this is how it complies. The case targets the company, not users, and I haven’t seen a ruling yet. If the state wins, adult sites may start blocking known VPN IP ranges, which makes a VPN with many servers and frequent IP rotation more valuable.
Indiana isn’t alone. Utah passed a law in 2026 telling adult sites to age-check users physically in the state even when they use a VPN, and 27 states now have age verification laws in total.
Is it legal to use a VPN to watch porn in Indiana?
Yes. Using a VPN is legal throughout the United States, and adults can legally watch adult content in Indiana. SB 17 sets rules for how websites check ages; it doesn’t ban VPNs or punish adult viewers.
Some lawmakers and officials now want websites to treat VPN traffic differently, as the Indiana and Utah examples show. I’ll keep this page updated if anything changes for users.
Can a free VPN bypass Indiana’s porn ban?
Sometimes, but be careful. Most free VPNs come with data caps, slow and crowded servers, and questionable privacy, and some have been caught selling user data.
Two free plans I’d actually trust:
- PrivadoVPN Free: 10 GB per month, a no-logs policy and US servers.
- Proton VPN Free: no data cap and US servers, but one device and no choice of state.
For regular use, a paid plan like Surfshark One at $2.79/mo is the better call. The privacy and speed gains are worth far more than the cost.
Troubleshooting: VPN connected but site still blocked?
- Clear cookies and cache: sites can read stored cookies to spot your real location. Use a private window.
- Switch servers: your current IP may be flagged. If Chicago fails, try New York, California or Nevada.
- Turn off location permissions: deny the site access to your browser’s location.
- Try a fresh browser: cached data and fingerprinting can give you away.
- Enable the kill switch: it cuts your connection if the VPN drops, so your Indiana IP is never exposed.

Frequently asked questions
Is Pornhub banned in Indiana?
Not by law. Indiana didn’t make the site illegal; Pornhub chose to block Indiana in July 2024 rather than collect IDs under SB 17. It is still blocked in October 2026, and a VPN server in another state gets you around it.
What is Indiana Senate Bill 17?
SB 17 is a 2024 law requiring adult websites with at least one third harmful-to-minors content to verify every user’s age. Courts let Indiana enforce it from August 2024, and the 2025 Supreme Court ruling on Texas’ similar law strengthened it.
Which VPN is best for unblocking Pornhub in Indiana?
Surfshark One is my top pick. It was the fastest VPN in my tests at about 96% speed retention, supports unlimited devices and costs $2.79/mo on the 2-year plan. IPVanish and Proton VPN are strong alternatives.
Which adult sites still work in Indiana without a VPN?
In my latest checks, XNXX and Xvideos showed only an age pop-up, and OnlyFans works with a login. Pornhub, Redtube, YouPorn, Tube8 and Brazzers are blocked, while xHamster, Chaturbate, Stripchat and SpankBang ask for face scans or ID.
Is it legal to use a VPN to watch porn in Indiana?
Yes, for adults. VPNs are legal in the US, and adults can legally view adult content in Indiana. The Attorney General’s lawsuit targets Aylo, not individual users.
Can a free VPN bypass Indiana’s porn ban?
Sometimes. PrivadoVPN’s free plan (10 GB per month) and Proton VPN’s free plan (no data cap, one device) are the only free options I’d trust. For reliable access, a paid VPN like Surfshark One is worth it.
Which US states have similar laws to Indiana?
As of October 2026, 27 states have age verification laws for adult sites, including Texas, Florida, Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia and Iowa. Pornhub blocks 25 of them.
Which server should I connect to from Indiana?
Illinois (Chicago) is the closest unrestricted state and gives the best speeds. New York, California, Nevada and Washington also work. If you go abroad, avoid the UK, France and Italy, which have their own age checks.
Final thoughts
SB 17 leaves Indiana adults with a bad choice: hand sensitive documents to a verification vendor or lose access to legal sites. With the Attorney General now pushing sites to treat VPN users as Hoosiers, the pressure on privacy is only growing.
A VPN remains the cleanest answer. My recommendation is Surfshark One: the fastest VPN I’ve tested, unlimited devices, CleanWeb for blocking ads and the best value overall. Proton VPN is the privacy-first alternative, and IPVanish is a strong runner-up.
