Surfshark VPN — Our verdict

Surfshark is my top pick if you need to reach the global Polymarket app from abroad. It was the fastest VPN in my tests, runs on unlimited devices, and its Camouflage Mode obfuscation slips past the kind of detection prediction markets rely on. Important: if you are a US resident, the lawful route is the regulated Polymarket US site, not a VPN workaround.

✔Fastest VPN I tested at around 95% speed retention
✔Unlimited simultaneous devices
✔Camouflage Mode obfuscation
✔Crypto payments and Alternative ID for extra privacy
✘Some privacy extras only on the One plan
✘Connection can take a moment longer

If you have searched for the best VPN for Polymarket in the US, you have probably hit a wall of conflicting advice. So let me be straight with you up front, because the situation changed at the end of 2025 and a lot of articles out there are still stuck in the old reality.

There are now two completely different products that share the Polymarket name. There is the original global app at polymarket.com, which is crypto based and geoblocked for US IP addresses. And there is Polymarket US, a separate, CFTC regulated venue that launched for US residents in December 2025. The version you should be using depends entirely on where you live, and that is the part most VPN guides quietly skip.

I tested 20+ VPNs against Polymarket’s detection, timed their speeds, and checked which ones actually held a connection through a full session. Below are my picks, led by Surfshark, plus the honest legal context that I think every US reader deserves before connecting to anything.

Read this first if you are in the US. Using a VPN is legal in the United States. But using one to reach the global Polymarket app from a US location violates Polymarket’s terms of service. Polymarket runs wallet level analysis and has frozen funds tied to US access. You also give up the protections of the regulated US product. For US residents, the lawful path is Polymarket US, the CFTC regulated site. This article is informational, not legal or financial advice.

Can you actually use Polymarket in the US in 2026?

Yes, but probably not the way you expect. In November 2025 the CFTC issued Polymarket an amended Order of Designation after it acquired a licensed exchange, and a regulated venue called Polymarket US (operated by QCX LLC) went live for US residents in December 2025. That site is the only Polymarket product US residents can lawfully use today.

The catch is that Polymarket US is a different animal from the app most people picture. It is a regulated derivatives exchange, it requires full KYC (government ID, proof of residency, and a live selfie), and it settles in US dollars through approved brokers rather than crypto. As of mid 2026 it is still in a limited, beta style rollout, and Polymarket has separately asked the CFTC for permission to reopen its main global exchange to US users. That request had not been granted at the time I wrote this, so nothing here is settled.

Why I do not recommend VPN-ing into the global app from the US. Polymarket can detect US users on the global app and freeze the funds in that wallet to stay compliant with its original CFTC settlement. There is also real enforcement risk: in 2026 a US service member was publicly accused by the CFTC and DOJ of using a VPN to trade on the international exchange. Those are not edge cases I would gamble real money on.

Is using a VPN for Polymarket legal?

Running a VPN is legal in the US and in most countries. The legal and policy problems start with what you do while connected. Using a VPN to bypass a geoblock that exists for regulatory reasons breaches Polymarket’s terms, can cost you your account, and can put your deposited funds at risk. In some countries, online prediction betting itself is restricted regardless of the VPN. So the honest answer is: the tool is legal, the workaround is against the rules, and the consequences fall on you.

That is exactly why I treat the VPN picks below as a tool for legitimate use cases first, which I cover next.

When a VPN genuinely makes sense for Polymarket

There are real, sensible reasons to run one of these VPNs alongside a prediction market, separate from dodging the US block:

Reasonable uses

  • You hold a valid global account and are traveling through a country that blocks the site, and you want to check positions.
  • You want your crypto and betting activity shielded from your ISP and from public Wi-Fi snooping.
  • You live somewhere Polymarket is permitted and simply want stronger privacy and ad/tracker blocking.

Where I draw the line

  • Using a VPN to make it look like you are outside the US to access the global app. That breaks the rules and risks your funds.
  • Accessing the platform from a country where the activity itself is illegal.
  • Treating a VPN as legal cover. It encrypts traffic; it does not change the law where you are.

Best VPNs for Polymarket in 2026: my detailed picks

I ranked these on the things that matter for a prediction market: whether they hold up against VPN detection, speed retention during a live session, obfuscation, privacy track record, and price. Surfshark came out on top overall.

1. Surfshark – best overall and the fastest in my tests

Surfshark is my number one. In my speed runs it retained about 95% of my base connection, the best result of any VPN I tested, so pages and order screens stayed snappy. It also runs on unlimited devices from a single account, which is rare and genuinely useful if you bounce between a phone and a laptop.

For a detection-heavy platform, the feature that matters most is Camouflage Mode, Surfshark’s obfuscation that makes VPN traffic look like ordinary HTTPS. I also leaned on IP Rotator, which cycles your IP periodically, and Alternative ID, which generates separate contact details so you are not handing over your real ones everywhere. Privacy wise, it pairs an independently audited no-logs policy with RAM-only servers, and it accepts crypto at signup. The main downside is that some of the best extras, like the bundled antivirus, sit on the pricier One plan rather than the entry tier.

The current deal is the Surfshark One plan at $1.99/mo on the 2-year plan, 87% off plus 3 extra months, with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Full breakdown is in my Surfshark review and on the Surfshark coupon page.

2. IPVanish – fast, budget friendly, unlimited devices

IPVanish is the value pick that surprised people most. It held roughly 92% speed retention in my tests, which is right at the top of the pack, and like Surfshark it supports unlimited simultaneous connections. It also offers scrambling/obfuscation on its OpenVPN connections, which helps against basic detection.

It keeps an audited no-logs stance and the apps are clean and easy to use. The trade-offs are a smaller country footprint than Proton or NordVPN, and it does not offer crypto payment, so if anonymous billing is a priority it is not the one. For pure speed-per-dollar, though, it is excellent.

Current pricing is $2.19/mo on the 24-month Essential plan, 83% off plus a 3 GB eSIM data gift. More in my IPVanish review and the IPVanish coupon page.

3. Proton VPN – best for privacy

If your priority is keeping crypto and prediction activity unlinked from your ISP, Proton VPN is the one I trust most. It is Swiss based, its apps are open source on every platform, and it has been independently audited. Secure Core routes your traffic through a hardened first hop before it exits, and the Stealth protocol provides obfuscation in tougher network conditions.

Performance was strong too, around 92% retention with WireGuard in my tests. NetShield blocks ads and trackers at the DNS level, which matters when half the pages around crypto are stuffed with fingerprinting scripts. It accepts crypto payments and even has a free tier, though I would not rely on the free servers for a detection-heavy site. The honest cons: support can be slow to respond, and a couple of the advanced features take a minute to learn.

The deal is $2.99/mo on the 2-year plan, 70% off, with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Details in my Proton VPN review and the Proton VPN coupon page.

4. PrivadoVPN – cheapest, and the best free option

PrivadoVPN is the budget champion and, if you genuinely want a free tier, the most usable one I tested. It is Swiss based with a no-logs policy, which is a good privacy footing for this kind of use. Speeds were solid rather than spectacular at around 85% retention, and the server network is smaller than the bigger names, so you have fewer locations to fall back on if one stops working.

I would frame Privado as the pick for someone who wants real privacy basics at the lowest possible price, not someone who needs heavy obfuscation. The free plan is handy for light use and testing the apps before you commit.

Current pricing is $1.11/mo on the 2-year plan, 90% off plus 3 extra months. See my PrivadoVPN review and the PrivadoVPN coupon page.

5. NordVPN – fast and feature rich, but pricier

NordVPN is a strong all-rounder with a deep feature set. It offers dedicated obfuscated servers, the fast NordLynx protocol, Threat Protection for blocking malicious ads and trackers, and an audited no-logs policy on RAM-only servers. It accepts crypto payments too.

In my own testing it landed at about 89% speed retention, which is very good, though Surfshark edged it out for raw speed and costs noticeably less for similar core capability. That is the main reason it sits below Surfshark on my list rather than above it. If you already prefer Nord’s ecosystem, it is a perfectly capable choice; for most people, the value just tilts toward Surfshark.

The current offer is $3.59/mo on the Plus plan, 76% off plus 3 extra months. More in my NordVPN review, the NordVPN coupon page, and my head-to-head Surfshark vs NordVPN comparison.

6. VeePN – budget streaming and a wide server spread

VeePN rounds out the list as a low-cost option with a decent server footprint across 60+ countries and obfuscation features for tighter networks. It posted around 88% speed retention in my tests, supports up to 10 devices, and keeps a no-logs policy. It accepts crypto as well.

It is not as polished as the top three and its network is smaller than Proton’s or Nord’s, but for the price it covers the basics and adds enough server choice to keep you flexible. A reasonable pick if you want a cheap, no-fuss connection.

Pricing is $1.99/mo on the 2-year plan, 83% off plus 4 extra months. See my VeePN review and the VeePN coupon page.

Where is Polymarket blocked?

Per Polymarket’s own documentation, the global app is restricted in dozens of countries, mostly for local gambling and derivatives rules. Alongside the United States, commonly listed blocked regions include:

RegionExamples of blocked countries
North AmericaUnited States, Cuba, Nicaragua
EuropeBelgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, United Kingdom, Belarus, Russia
AsiaSingapore, Thailand, Iran, North Korea, Myanmar, Syria, Taiwan, Yemen
OceaniaAustralia
South AmericaVenezuela

Some places only allow viewing markets without trading, and certain regions inside otherwise-allowed countries (for example Ontario in Canada) are blocked too. Lists change, so always check Polymarket’s current restricted-countries page before you do anything.

How to access the global Polymarket app with a VPN

This is the general process people use with a valid global account from a permitted location. It is not a workaround I endorse for US residents, for the reasons above.

1

Choose a VPN with obfuscation

Surfshark worked best for me. A large network and obfuscation give you the most fallback options.

2

Install and sign in

Download the app for your device, log in, and turn on obfuscation (Camouflage Mode on Surfshark).

3

Connect to a permitted country

Pick a location where Polymarket is allowed. In testing, Canada (Montreal, not Ontario) tended to be reliable.

4

Open Polymarket and sign in

Load the site and log in to your existing account. Keep the VPN on for the whole session.

US resident? Skip the steps above. Head to Polymarket US, complete KYC, and trade on the regulated venue. It is the only version that gives you federal protections and avoids the frozen-funds risk.

Can a free VPN access Polymarket?

In my experience, not reliably. I ran several free services and most were detected and blocked outright, often with a prompt to switch the VPN off. The usable exceptions were freemium tiers of paid providers, and even those were inconsistent because they limit data, locations, and the ability to pick a server. Plenty of standalone free VPNs also log and sell activity, which is the opposite of what you want around crypto and money. If you want to test the water for free, a freemium tier from Proton VPN or PrivadoVPN is the only direction I would consider, and even then I would move to a paid trial for anything serious.

Polymarket VPN not working? Try these fixes

Even good VPNs get flagged sometimes. Before giving up, work through these in order:

Quick fixes that usually work

  • Clear your browser cookies and cache, then restart. This solves it most of the time, since stale data can leak your real location.
  • Switch to a different server, ideally another permitted country.
  • Turn on obfuscation (Camouflage on Surfshark, obfuscated servers on NordVPN).

If it still fails

  • Try a different protocol; OpenVPN TCP is slower but strong at unblocking.
  • Run a leak test and enable the kill switch and leak protection.
  • Contact 24/7 support and ask which server they recommend right now.

How I tested and picked these VPNs

I weighted my testing toward the things that actually decide whether a VPN is usable for a prediction market. Access reliability came first: I checked whether each VPN could reach the platform from permitted-country servers without being flagged. Then I measured speed retention over real sessions to make sure order screens stayed responsive. After that I looked at security and privacy, prioritizing audited no-logs policies, a kill switch, leak protection, and obfuscation. Finally I factored in crypto payment support and price so there is a fit for every budget. Surfshark led on the combination of speed, obfuscation, device count, and value.

Frequently asked questions

Can I bet on Polymarket in the US in 2026?

Yes, through Polymarket US, the CFTC regulated venue that launched in December 2025. It requires full KYC and settles in US dollars. The original global app remains geoblocked for US IP addresses, and using a VPN to reach it breaches Polymarket’s terms.

Is it illegal to use a VPN for Polymarket?

Using a VPN is legal in the US and most countries. What carries risk is using one to bypass a geoblock that exists for regulatory reasons, which violates Polymarket’s terms and can lead to account closure or frozen funds. This article is informational and not legal advice.

Can I get my funds frozen for using a VPN?

It is a real possibility on the global app. Polymarket runs wallet-level analysis and can freeze funds tied to US access to stay compliant with its 2022 CFTC settlement. That is the main reason I steer US readers to the regulated Polymarket US site instead.

What is the best VPN server location for Polymarket?

For the global app, Canada was the most consistently reliable location in my testing, specifically Montreal rather than Ontario, since Ontario blocks gambling sites. Availability shifts, so be ready to switch countries if one stops working.

Which VPN is fastest for Polymarket?

Surfshark was the fastest in my tests at around 95% speed retention, with IPVanish and Proton VPN close behind. Speed matters less for placing bets than for general browsing, but Surfshark gave the smoothest overall experience.

Will a free VPN work with Polymarket?

Rarely and unreliably. Most free VPNs are detected and blocked, and many log or sell your data. A freemium tier from a trusted provider is the only free route I would consider, and even then I would move to a paid trial for anything involving real money.
