ExpressVPN
ExpressVPN is the easiest VPN I have tested, and the Basic plan at $2.99/mo finally makes it fairly priced. It is owned by Kape Technologies, and Surfshark One is still faster and better value in my tests.
- 113 countries and 214 locations
- 10 devices on Basic
- Lightway protocol
- Post-quantum protection
- Lite Protection ad blocking
- Easiest apps I have tested
- Basic now $2.99/mo with 4 months free
- 91% speed retention in my tests
- 113 countries and 214 locations
- Audited open-source Lightway protocol
- Renews at $99.95 per year on Basic
- Only 10 devices on Basic
- Owned by Kape Technologies
- Pricier than Surfshark One
I have tested ExpressVPN in dozens of videos, and for years my main complaint was the price. The Halloween promotion running right now changes that: Basic costs $2.99/month on the 2-year plan with 4 extra months free, so you get 28 months for $83.72 upfront.
That is 80% off the $419.72 you would pay for 28 months at ExpressVPN’s regular monthly rate. Advanced and Express Pro are discounted too, at 73% and 67% off respectively.
Below I break down exactly what each tier includes, what you pay upfront and at renewal, how to claim the offer, and how ExpressVPN stacks up against Surfshark One, NordVPN, Proton VPN and CyberGhost in my own testing.
ExpressVPN Halloween Deal: Current Plans and Prices
ExpressVPN sells three tiers: Basic, Advanced and Express Pro. Monthly and 12-month plans exist, but the biggest savings are on the 2-year plans, which currently include 4 bonus months for a 28-month first term.
| Plan | Monthly equivalent | Billed upfront (28 months) | Discount | Devices | Renews at |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic (my pick) | $2.99/mo | $83.72 | 80% off | 10 | $99.95/year |
| Advanced (most popular) | $4.49/mo | $125.72 | 73% off | 12 | $119.95/year |
| Express Pro | $7.49/mo | $209.72 | 67% off | 14 | $199.95/year |
How ExpressVPN calculates the discount
The crossed-out reference prices are $419.72 for Basic, $475.72 for Advanced and $643.72 for Express Pro. Those figures are simply 28 months at each tier’s monthly price, which works out to $14.99, $16.99 and $22.99 per month.
So the 80% headline is real, but it is measured against the most expensive way to buy ExpressVPN. Against the renewal rate, the saving is smaller, which is normal for VPN pricing.
What each tier includes
| Feature | Basic | Advanced | Express Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simultaneous devices | 10 | 12 | 14 |
| Threat blocking | Lite Protection: ads, malicious and adult sites | Advanced Protection: adds tracker blocking | Advanced Protection |
| ExpressMailGuard | 10MB monthly relay, 10 shared aliases | 100MB, 50 shared aliases, 1 custom domain | Unlimited relay and shared aliases, 20 custom domains |
| ExpressKeys password manager | No | Yes, with 2FA authenticator | Yes, with 2FA authenticator |
| Travel eSIM | No | 3GB, valid 3 days | 3GB, valid 5 days |
| Dedicated IP | Paid add-on | Paid add-on | Included |
| ExpressAI | No | No | 500 daily credits, 6 models, web search, 2GB storage |
Basic: the best choice if you mainly want the VPN
Basic at $2.99/month is the plan I recommend to most people. You get the full ExpressVPN network, the same apps and protocols as the higher tiers, 10 simultaneous connections and Lite Protection for blocking ads, malicious sites and adult sites.
ExpressVPN advertises its network at up to 40Gbps on every tier, so Basic is not a slower version of the service. ExpressMailGuard is included with entry-level limits, and you can buy a dedicated IP later if you need one.

Advanced: worth it only if you will use the extras
Advanced at $4.49/month costs $42 more than Basic over the first 28 months, about $1.50 extra per month. It is labeled the most popular plan, and here is what that extra money buys:
- 12 devices instead of 10.
- Advanced Protection: adds tracker blocking on top of ads, malicious sites and adult sites.
- ExpressKeys: a password manager with a built-in two-factor authenticator.
- Bigger ExpressMailGuard limits: 100MB of monthly relay, 50 shared aliases and one custom domain.
- 3GB travel eSIM: valid for three days.
If you would replace a separate password manager with ExpressKeys, Advanced pays for itself. If you only want a VPN, I would keep the $42 and choose Basic.
Express Pro: for people who want the full suite
Express Pro at $7.49/month is $209.72 upfront, which is $84 more than Advanced for the first term. You get 14 devices, a dedicated IP included, unlimited ExpressMailGuard relay and shared aliases with 20 custom domains, and the eSIM validity extended to five days.
Pro also adds ExpressAI, ExpressVPN’s private AI service, with 500 daily credits, six models, web search and 2GB of storage. A dedicated IP alone usually costs a few dollars a month as an add-on, so Pro makes sense if you need one and would actually use the AI tool.
Get ExpressVPN Basic for $2.99/month
The 2-year plan includes 4 extra months, so the first 28 months cost $83.72. All plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee for new users.
How to Claim the ExpressVPN Deal
You do not need a coupon code. The Halloween pricing appears automatically when you reach ExpressVPN through my deal link.
Open the ExpressVPN deal page
Go to ExpressVPN through the deal link. Basic should show $2.99/month, 80% off and 2 years plus 4 months.
Keep the 2-year term selected
The headline discount and the 4 free months only apply to the 2-year plan. Monthly and 12-month plans cost much more per month.
Pick Basic, Advanced or Express Pro
I recommend Basic for most people. Choose Advanced for ExpressKeys and tracker blocking, or Pro if you need a dedicated IP and ExpressAI.
Check the total before paying
The upfront totals today are $83.72 for Basic, $125.72 for Advanced and $209.72 for Express Pro. Sales tax may be added depending on where you live.
Install the apps
Create your account and download ExpressVPN on Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, smart TVs, streaming devices or a supported router.

The 30-day money-back guarantee
All three plans include a 30-day money-back guarantee for new users who subscribe through the ExpressVPN website. That gives you a full month to test speeds, streaming and the apps on your own devices.
If you subscribe as an in-app purchase on the Apple App Store or Google Play, refunds follow Apple’s or Google’s policy instead. The 3-day mobile free trial also falls under those store rules rather than the website guarantee.

Payment methods and auto-renewal
ExpressVPN accepts major credit and debit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay, with extra options depending on your country. All plans renew automatically at the yearly rate after the first 28 months.
I turn off auto-renewal in my account right after subscribing. You keep the full 28 months either way, and you get to decide later whether $99.95 per year still makes sense.
What You Get with ExpressVPN Basic
The cheapest tier does not limit the VPN itself. Basic gets the same network, protocols and core privacy features as Advanced and Pro.
- 113 countries and 214 locations: one of the widest country spreads of any VPN I have tested.
- 10 simultaneous connections: Advanced raises this to 12 and Pro to 14.
- Lightway: ExpressVPN’s open-source protocol, rewritten in Rust and audited by Cure53 and Praetorian.
- Post-quantum protection: built in to guard against future quantum-capable attackers.
- WireGuard and OpenVPN: available alongside Lightway on supported apps.
- TrustedServer: RAM-only servers, so nothing is written to traditional hard drives.
- Network Lock: ExpressVPN’s kill switch, which blocks traffic if the connection drops.
- Lite Protection: blocks ads, malicious sites and adult sites.
- ExpressMailGuard: 10MB of monthly private email relay and 10 shared aliases.
- MediaStreamer: Smart DNS for devices that cannot run a VPN app.
Speed in my tests
ExpressVPN kept 91% of my base connection speed in my latest tests using Lightway, the same result as NordVPN. That is excellent, but Surfshark One kept 96% on the same connection and servers, so it is still the fastest VPN I have tested.
The advertised 40Gbps figure describes server capacity, not the speed you will see. Your real speed is capped by your own internet plan and distance to the server.
Split tunneling and routers
Split tunneling is available on desktop and Android, and iOS now lets selected destinations bypass the VPN. The controls differ by platform, so check your app version if this feature matters to you.
For routers, Aircove and Aircove Go are the simplest options, but ExpressVPN still supports selected Asus, Linksys and Netgear models. Other routers can use manual OpenVPN setup.

Privacy and Security
ExpressVPN is based in the British Virgin Islands, outside the Five, Nine and Fourteen Eyes alliances. Its no-logs policy and TrustedServer setup have been checked repeatedly by KPMG, Cure53, PwC and Praetorian.
The 2025 KPMG assessment covered TrustedServer and the privacy policy claims. Lightway’s Rust rewrite stayed open source and got its own independent audits, which is more transparency than most VPNs offer.

Comparing ExpressVPN with the rest?
See my full ranking of the best VPNs I tested. Surfshark One is my #1 pick for speed, unlimited devices and value.
See the best VPNs →Is the ExpressVPN Deal Good Value?
At $2.99/month, ExpressVPN is far easier to recommend than it was under its old single-plan pricing. You no longer pay for a full security suite just to get the VPN.
That said, it is not the cheapest premium VPN, and it is not the fastest. Here is how the current deal compares with the rivals I test most often.
| VPN | 2-year price | Current deal | Devices | Speed retention (my tests) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Surfshark One | $2.79/mo | 85% off + 3 months free | Unlimited | 96% |
| ExpressVPN Basic | $2.99/mo | 80% off + 4 months free | 10 | 91% |
| NordVPN Plus | $3.59/mo | 75% off + 3 months free | 10 | 91% |
| Proton VPN | $2.99/mo | 70% off | 10 | 92% |
| CyberGhost | $1.75/mo | 87% off + 2 months free | 7 | 86% |
ExpressVPN vs Surfshark One
Surfshark One costs $2.79/month on the 2-year plan with 3 extra months, so it is cheaper than ExpressVPN Basic while including far more. You get unlimited devices, Antivirus, CleanWeb, GPS override, NoBorders and Everlink, on RAM-only servers with an audited no-logs policy.
It was also faster in my tests, 96% speed retention versus 91%. The trade-offs are Surfshark’s Netherlands base, which is in the Nine Eyes alliance, and a higher renewal price, so turn auto-renewal off there too.
ExpressVPN’s real advantage is simplicity. Its apps are still the easiest I have tested for someone who never wants to touch a setting. For everyone else, Surfshark One is the better deal, and you can see the full breakdown in my Surfshark coupon page.
Surfshark One: 85% OFF + 3 months free
Unlimited devices, Antivirus, CleanWeb and 96% speed retention in my tests, for $2.79/mo on the 2-year plan.
ExpressVPN vs NordVPN
NordVPN Plus is $3.59/month with 3 extra months, so ExpressVPN Basic is cheaper right now. Both kept 91% of my speed, and NordVPN offers more advanced settings, while ExpressVPN is easier to use. My Surfshark vs NordVPN comparison explains why I still rank Surfshark above both.
ExpressVPN vs CyberGhost
CyberGhost costs $1.75/month on its 2-year plan with 2 extra months and offers a 45-day money-back guarantee on qualifying plans. It is cheaper, but slower in my tests at 86%, and it is also owned by Kape Technologies.
ExpressVPN vs Proton VPN
If privacy is your top priority, Proton VPN at $2.99/month is my pick. It is Swiss, fully open source, audited, and has a genuinely useful free plan, all at the same price as ExpressVPN Basic.
Where ExpressVPN Earns Its Price
- Very simple apps: still the VPN I recommend first to non-technical friends and family.
- Consistent design: the experience feels the same on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and TV devices.
- Lightway: fast, open source, rewritten in Rust and protected with post-quantum encryption.
- Heavy auditing: apps, servers, privacy claims and protocol have all been externally assessed.
- Huge country coverage: 113 countries and 214 locations.
- Router options: Aircove is one of the simplest whole-home VPN setups available.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the current ExpressVPN deal?
As of October 27, 2026, ExpressVPN’s Halloween promotion offers up to 80% off 2-year plans with 4 extra months. Basic costs $2.99/month, billed as $83.72 for the first 28 months.
Do I need an ExpressVPN coupon code?
No. The discount applies automatically through the deal link. Just confirm the promotional price shows on the pricing page before you pay.
How much does ExpressVPN Basic cost?
Basic is $2.99/month on the 2-year plan, paid as $83.72 upfront for 28 months. It then renews at $99.95 per year unless you cancel or change plans.
How much do ExpressVPN Advanced and Express Pro cost?
Advanced is $4.49/month, or $125.72 for 28 months, renewing at $119.95 per year. Express Pro is $7.49/month, or $209.72 for 28 months, renewing at $199.95 per year.
Which ExpressVPN plan should I choose?
I recommend Basic for most people. Advanced is worth it if you will use ExpressKeys, tracker blocking and the travel eSIM. Pro mainly makes sense if you need a dedicated IP and want ExpressAI.
Is the 80% discount real?
Yes, but it is calculated against 28 months at the monthly plan price. The reference price for Basic is $419.72, which is $14.99 multiplied by 28 months.
Does ExpressVPN have a money-back guarantee?
Yes. All three plans include a 30-day money-back guarantee for new users who buy on the ExpressVPN website. App Store and Google Play purchases follow those stores’ refund rules.
Does ExpressVPN have a free trial?
There is a 3-day free trial through the iOS and Android apps. Trials started in the app stores are handled under Apple or Google rules rather than the website guarantee.
How does the ExpressVPN eSIM work?
Advanced includes a 3GB travel eSIM valid for three days, and Pro extends it to five days. You need a compatible, carrier-unlocked phone, and it can be redeemed once per account when your paid subscription starts.

Basic supports 10 simultaneous connections, Advanced 12 and Express Pro 14.
How fast is ExpressVPN?
In my tests ExpressVPN kept 91% of my base speed. That is excellent, though Surfshark One was faster at 96% on the same connection.
Is ExpressVPN worth paying more than Surfshark One?
For most people, no. Surfshark One is cheaper at $2.79/month, faster in my tests and supports unlimited devices. ExpressVPN makes sense if simplicity or its router ecosystem matters most to you.
Is ExpressVPN owned by Kape Technologies?
Yes, since 2021. ExpressVPN still operates under British Virgin Islands jurisdiction with audited no-logs claims, but I think the ownership is relevant context for privacy-focused buyers.
Does ExpressVPN work with Netflix?
ExpressVPN has been one of the more reliable streaming VPNs in my testing. Streaming services change their VPN detection often, so test your own services during the 30-day guarantee.
Final Verdict: Is the ExpressVPN Halloween Deal Worth It?
Yes, if ease of use is your top priority. At $2.99/month you get 28 months for $83.72, the full 113-country network, 10 devices, Lightway and ExpressVPN’s audited privacy setup.
The catch is renewal, since Basic jumps to $99.95 per year afterward. Turn off auto-renewal early and decide later whether to stay.
I still rank Surfshark One as the better value for most people, because it is cheaper, faster in my tests and covers unlimited devices. But if you want the simplest premium VPN I have tested, this is the best ExpressVPN price I have seen.
