I have been using Surfshark on my own devices and testing it on my YouTube channel for over two years. Over that time, the reason I recommend it has expanded beyond its VPN pricing. The VPN remains the foundation, but Surfshark One is the plan I would choose for most people who also need antivirus protection and breach monitoring.
This Surfshark One review brings together my practical VPN experience, my recorded speed results, current product documentation, and independent antivirus testing. Those are different types of evidence. My streaming tests tell you about my experience accessing services; laboratory malware tests tell you about the tested antivirus product. Neither guarantees identical results on your devices.
My verdict is straightforward: One is the sweet spot of the range when you will actually use its extras. It is less compelling if you already have security software you like, or if your household mainly uses devices that cannot run Surfshark Antivirus.
What is Surfshark One?
Surfshark One combines the VPN with Antivirus, Alert, Search, and Alternative ID. These tools address different problems: protecting a network connection, checking for malicious files, notifying you about detected data exposure, searching without advertising, and sharing fewer personal details during online registrations. The useful question is whether these tools replace things you would otherwise pay for or leave unprotected. A longer feature list is not automatically better value. A bundle earns its place when you use its components regularly.
Check the upgrade against your actual devices
Count the Windows PCs, Macs and Android devices that need antivirus. Then decide whether you will use Alert and Search. That tells you more than the number of features on the sales page.

Surfshark One pricing: what you actually pay
On September 13, 2026, Surfshark’s public pricing page displayed the following USD offers. Each covers the first 27 months, including three extra months. VAT may apply, and currency or coupon selection can change the offer. These are advertised terms, not a completed checkout quote.

At those displayed totals, One costs $8.10 more than Starter for the entire introductory period. That is the strongest argument for the upgrade. If you need its antivirus and breach alerts, the difference is easy to justify. If you will never activate either, Starter remains a sensible purchase.
One+ costs another $45.90 over One for that initial term. I would make that decision around the usefulness and eligibility of Incogni, rather than assume the most expensive plan must be the best.
The monthly headline is an equivalent price
The long-term One offer requires an upfront payment. Check the total due today and the separate renewal amount before paying.

Antivirus: the biggest reason to upgrade
Surfshark Antivirus supports up to five compatible devices. Its supported platforms include Windows 10 and later, macOS Big Sur 11 and later, and Android 10 and later. Windows ARM and non-64-bit Android devices are excluded. iPhones, iPads, and Linux computers are not listed as supported antivirus platforms. Surfshark also documents real-time checks, quick and full scans, scheduled scans, exclusions, and webcam protection where supported.
That five-device limit deserves more attention than it usually receives. A household can connect many devices to the VPN while still running out of antivirus slots. Likewise, an iPhone owner does not gain an iOS malware scanner simply by upgrading their subscription.
I see Antivirus as an attractive addition for someone starting with a Windows laptop or compatible Android phone and wanting a straightforward bundle. For someone already satisfied with their existing protection, it is less of a reason to switch.
Unlimited VPN is not unlimited antivirus
One subscription allows unlimited VPN connections, but Surfshark Antivirus covers up to five compatible devices. Check platform support before replacing your existing security software.
What independent testing tells us
AV-TEST evaluated Surfshark Antivirus versions 6.9 and 6.11 on Windows 11 during May and June 2026. It awarded full marks for protection and usability, with a weaker result for performance. The published results show complete detection of the widespread malware reference set in both months, while June’s real-world protection result was slightly below complete detection. That supports taking the antivirus seriously. It also gives me a reason to avoid promising that it never slows a computer down. The performance assessment concerns normal computer operations, not VPN throughput, and these Windows results should not be presented as tests of the Mac or Android versions.
I have not supplied a separate malware laboratory test of my own here. My recommendation combines the independent evidence with the price of the bundle, rather than claiming firsthand detection results that I cannot substantiate.
Surfshark Alert: useful if you act on it
Alert monitors supported personal information for exposure, including email addresses, card details, and supported identity information. Its purpose is to notify you when it detects a relevant leak. That notification can help you respond sooner, but monitoring cannot stop another company from being breached or guarantee that every stolen record will be discovered.
This is the second One feature I would prioritize after setting up Antivirus. It fits everyday security well because the response is concrete: change a compromised password, check other accounts where it was reused, and strengthen the affected account’s sign-in protection.
The word real-time needs context. Notifications depend on detection. They do not mean Surfshark sees every breach the instant it occurs. I would treat Alert as an additional source of awareness, alongside messages from the services I use.
Make a breach alert actionable
If a notification identifies an exposed password, change it on the affected account and anywhere else you reused it. Review account activity and enable multifactor authentication where available.
Search and Alternative ID: quieter privacy improvements
Surfshark Search offers ad-free results without personalization based on previous searches or your actual location. You can choose a region for more relevant results. That is appealing if you dislike sponsored clutter, although clicking a result takes you to a website with its own privacy practices.
I would treat Search as a useful extra rather than the main reason to subscribe. Try it with your normal searches: product questions, local information, technical troubleshooting, and whatever else you look up regularly. If the results suit you, it adds convenience. If they do not, the bundle still has other reasons to exist.
Alternative ID supplies alternative personal details and a forwarding email address for registrations where you prefer to share less information. Alternative Number is a separate paid add-on, so do not assume the One price includes a virtual phone number.
I particularly like the idea of keeping a primary inbox away from casual signups. However, Alternative ID is already part of Starter, so it does not explain the upgrade premium by itself. It also does not replace legal identity verification or the need to provide accurate details where a service requires them.
Alert and data removal solve different problems
Alert helps you discover detected exposure. Incogni, included with eligible One+ subscriptions, submits data-removal requests. Decide which task you need before paying for the higher tier.
VPN speed: my recorded results
The VPN is still the reason I would consider Surfshark in the first place. In my local WireGuard testing, the baseline was 246.5 Mbps download and 291.9 Mbps upload. With Surfshark connected to a local server, I measured 238.4 Mbps down and 258.4 Mbps up.

Those are excellent local results. In my broader supplied comparison results, Surfshark also led on approximate speed retention. That makes it the fastest option in that set of my tests, rather than proof that it wins on every connection, device, and protocol.
The international results in my testing notes show why location matters. Download retention ranged from 96% for Madrid to 57% for Tokyo, while distant upload performance dropped more sharply. Those measurements used a separate gigabit baseline, so they should not be mixed into the local test as though everything came from the same session.
For this review, the strongest reproducible takeaway is the local table. It supports my positive everyday speed verdict without claiming a universal ranking. Someone working with large remote uploads should test their actual destination and workflow during the initial purchase period.
Test the connection you will actually use
Start with a nearby server for everyday browsing. If you need another country, test that location separately and check upload speed as well as download speed.
Streaming and everyday app use
In my testing over the past two years, Surfshark has worked with Netflix libraries in the US, UK, and Japan, as well as services including BBC iPlayer, Disney+, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. That experience is a substantial part of why I continue recommending the VPN.
Streaming access is variable. I have encountered occasional proxy warnings on individual servers, and switching to another server in the same country has often resolved them. I would never interpret a successful test as a promise that a particular library will remain available indefinitely.
I have also tested the apps across Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Apple TV. The simple connection screen and straightforward country selection are strengths. I value being able to find a location quickly more than having a decorative map.

Surfshark’s privacy policy says it does not store the websites you visit through its VPN. It also discloses temporary connection details, such as a user ID and/or IP address and connection timestamps, deleted within 15 minutes after a session ends. This is not a promise that no customer information is ever processed. Account administration and the individual bundle services involve additional data.
I consider that distinction relevant. The deletion window starts after the session ends; it does not mean the entire lifetime of all connection information is capped at 15 minutes. Nor would I describe an IP address as information that could never identify someone.
Surfshark lists Deloitte no-logs assurance reports for 2023 and 2025, alongside separate security assessments, in its trust center. Full Deloitte reports are available through customer accounts. Its RAM-only server design reduces persistent storage on the VPN servers, but does not eliminate every possible privacy risk.
In my supplied leak tests, I did not detect DNS, IPv6, or WebRTC exposure across the tested configurations. My forced-disconnection checks also found that the kill switch blocked traffic until reconnection. Those findings support the configurations I tested; they are not a substitute for checking your own setup after major app or network changes.
A VPN does not erase your identity online
Websites can still recognize accounts you sign into. Cookies, browser fingerprinting and information you submit remain relevant even when your public IP address changes.
Ownership and network infrastructure
Surfshark and Nord Security announced a merger in 2022 while saying the brands would continue operating independently. That is more accurate than describing the event simply as NordVPN buying Surfshark. Shared corporate ownership is still relevant if you want to diversify the companies you trust.
Nexus is Surfshark’s software-defined networking architecture, associated with features such as IP rotation and flexible multi-server routing. I would assess those features by their usefulness, rather than read the architecture as a guarantee that every connection is faster.

Installing the VPN is only the first step. To get value from the bundle, you need to activate the products you intend to use and check their settings.

In my supplied support experience, live-chat responses typically arrived within one to three minutes. My refund test was processed in five to seven business days without aggressive retention attempts. Those are personal observations, not guaranteed service times for every customer.

The limitations matter: five antivirus devices, restricted antivirus platform support, temporary connection-data processing, and renewal terms that deserve a careful look. None prevents One from being a strong everyday choice, but each can change the answer for a particular buyer.
